10 books I will read in the next 10 years, in no particular order...

1. Rage - Stephen King

A psychological thriller. A book that has been banned in some cases. A book that Stephen King had to let fall out of print due to real-life connections. Very dark.

2. The Turn of the Screw by Henry James

Another horror book. A classic horror trope with a certain evil in an isolated home.

3. Station Eleven by Emily St. John Mandel

A dystopian book, a top 3 genre of all time. Follows a time after a pandemic, very intriguing.

4. Contact by Carl Sagan

Being one of the most respected astronomers, a book by Carl Sagan should be a must-read. Contact between humanity and a technologically advanced alien life form, this book is regarded as one of the best science fiction books of all time.

5. The Ritual by Adam Nevill

After watching the movie version months ago, I feel like I should read the book version soon as with the horror genre, there is a massive difference between being given the visualization vs. creating it yourself.

 6. The Family Upstairs by Lisa Jewell

This book is more of a thriller and mystery in the way it focuses on the dark past of a family, but it also has its horror elements.

7. S. by Doug Dorst and J. J. Abrams

I literally have no idea what this is about, but everything about it seems super interesting.

8. The Forest of Enchantments by Chitra Banerjee Divakaruni

A book about one of the many stories in Indian legend and folklore. A story known as The Ramayana. Told through the lens of Sita, the wife of Lord Rama.

9. The Palace of Illusions by Chitra Banerjee Divakaruni

Another book of a story in Indian legend. An epic known as Mahabharata, but told through the lens of Draupadi who is the wife of the Pandavas. Both this novel and The Forest of Enchantments are written by the same person.

10. Every Diary of a Wimpy Kid book I haven't read, all by Jeff Kinney

I have to turn the clock back. I haven't read one of these books in a while and I just remember them being entertaining. So apparently there are a lot of I haven't read including:

Old School, Double Down, The Getaway, The Meltdown, Wrecking Ball, The Deep End, Big Shot, and Diper Overloded.

I'm assuming these books are all garbage as Jeff Kinney probably fell off, but we'll find out.

Time is an aspect of our existence that is constantly battled with. Deadlines, quotas, timed tests. Death. These are all battles against Father Time himself, a battle in which we all inevitably lose. But how can someone "beat the clock?" You can't. Our lives are ticking timebombs that are pre...

"Mortal Man" - Kendrick Lamar (Timestamp 10:40)   "The caterpillar is a prisoner to the streets that conceived it Its only job is to eat or consume everything Around it, in order to protect itself from this mad city While consuming its environment the Caterpillar begins to notice ways to survive One thing it noticed is how much the World shuns him, but praises the butterfly The butterfly represents the talent, The thoughtfulness, and the beauty within the caterpillar But having a harsh outlook on life the caterpillar sees the Butterfly as weak and figures out A way to pimp it to his own benefits Already surrounded by this mad city the caterpillar Goes to work on the cocoon which institutionalizes him He can no longer see past his own thoughts He's trapped When trapped inside these walls certain ideas take roots, Such as going home, and bringing back new concepts to this mad city The result? Wings begin to emerge, breaking the cycle of feeling stagnant Finally free, t...

Kendrick Talk

Prompt While you don't have a Ph.D. yet, we bet you're developing an expertise in something. If you were giving a Lightning Talk, what topic (academic or not) would you choose? Breaking down, and analyzing the structure, the meaning, and the reason behind lyrics from the most extraordinary talents in Hip-Hop history is one of the most enthralling concepts I’ve found myself delving into. Those who know me reasonably well, know that I'm really into the music industry, specifically Hip-Hop. And those who know me more than reasonably well, know that I thoroughly enjoy breaking down lyrics. If I had to give a Lightning Talk about any topic, it would be the multiple layers of ANY song by Kendrick Lamar. Kendrick is easily one of the most versatile artists in history, and with this versatility comes some of the most in-depth lyrics anyone would ever listen to.  I would choose to give a talk on Kendrick's music mainly because he turns this simple form of entertainment into an...
