Even though I believe high school has been overrated, there have been many moments where I've truly experienced joy and learned life lessons. In the past 4 years, many things have gone wrong, I've been embarrassed countless times, and have failed many, many tests. But looking back at it all with two weeks left of high school...it is what it is. Like come on now, I say I've failed a lot of times, but it's not like I can remember the specific occasion. I end up forgetting a week later anyway. I've been in a mindset of forgetting the past, what's done is done. If I were to get knocked down in round 1, but have enough strength to get up, there are still 11 more rounds to get through, so why worry about the knockdown? (I've never been in a boxing match and don't even believe I could get through 3 rounds, however, I believe I'm the best boxer in the state.)
The story of my high school career has definitely been the development of my confidence. For those that remember me from freshman year, I was struggling socially. I hated to talk to most people and was a very awkward individual. It wasn't until after the virtual year that I realized that I should just capitalize off of this opportunity of people not seeing me for a year. It wasn't really about me wanting other people to start talking to me, but it was more of a way for me to feel more comfortable. The virtual year hits hard in a way where it made me realize that the world could potentially end at any time. I'm not saying that the end of humanity would be a bad thing for the planet, but it just makes me understand how significant most of my actions are (they are not significant). But come junior year, I did in fact feel more comfortable talking to people, but it doesn't matter because junior year sucked. Senior year is when I actually felt like a different person, and I could credit some of it to marching band with having a leadership role, forcing me to actually talk to people, but nonetheless, it's where I really felt the change. I'm not sure how many people noticed a difference between my senior year and any other year, but to me, the change was obvious.
So although I did not like most of high school, the things that came out of it were truly things I couldn't have gotten anywhere besides this school. It has been a perfect place for me to experiment, develop, understand myself, and prepare myself for college. Although truthfully, I will not be reminiscing about most parts of high school, I will never forget the people that attributed to my growth. As excited as I am to be finished with the last chapter, I'm even more prepared for what's next to come. Each new year is just a new round, regroup my thoughts, rethink my plan, and reward my efforts.
And as I do love going out with a bang,
